Satō Kikuko's first lessons were from her mother. Later she studied under Miyagi Kiyoko. At the age of 25 she graduated from NHK Ginosha Ikuseikai (Association for promotion technicians of Japanese music). She is also a music-graduate of Tokyo University of the Arts (Geidai) , where she completed a post-graduate course in 1987. She has given lecture-recitals in the United States and in China. She took part in the 1991 recording of Japanese Music for "Dragon-Quest". She is a member of Miyagi-kai, Mori-no-kai and Mutsu-no-o, a lecturer of I.C.A. Edo Culture and a frequent broadcaster.
